During the procedure, the inner lips of the vulva are made to look symmetrical (reduced). Many of Dr. Pousti’s patients come in complaining of pain during exercise, horse back riding, cycling and/or intercourse so this procedure will assist with those symptoms. Other patients come in for the aesthetic correction and improving their self-image. Reduction of the labia minora is performed under local or general anesthesia with care taken to obtain as natural a result as possible. Care is taken to avoid over-resection of the labia and to avoid interference with the clitoris or urethral opening. This judicious reduction of the labia minora may serve to improve the physical comfort and sexuality of the patient. Scars are minimal and normally only visible to the trained eye. Sensitivity is normally not interfered with: psychological and relational components of dysfunctional vaginal experience can neither be caused, nor treated by surgery.This procedure can be called Labiaplasty, Labioplasty, Labial Reduction Surgery, Labia Reduction Surgery, or Vulvar Surgery.
