Thomas L. Roberts, III, M.D.

Dr. Roberts was named one of the "Top Cosmetic Surgeons in America" by Town & Country Magazine, an honor given to no other plastic surgeon in North or South Carolina.

Dr. Roberts had performed more than 1000 breast augmentations. He has also pioneered the (1) use of the CO2 and Erbium Lasers for cosmetic plastic surgery; (2) a new technique for Buttocks Augmentation using MicroFat Grafting, and (3) a safer technique for facelift and Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation. He is the author of over 95 national and international presentations and 28 scientific publications, videotapes, and book chapters on cosmetic surgery. His work is being translated into Spanish and Portuguese. He was one of the first surgeons ever to receive the "Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery," for teaching, publishing, and studying over 1,000 hours in the last three years.

He pioneered the development of CO2 and erbium lasers for aesthetic plastic surgery, as well as a safer technique for facelift. He is also acclaimed for a new method of buttocks augmentation by microfat grafting. He has refined the technique for the face and has successfully used microfat grafting to augment or enhance the face --cheekbones, chin, and lips.

Teaching

Dr. Roberts has taught state-of-the-art techniques in cosmetic and laser surgery to more than 6,000 physicians through various seminars, instructional courses, symposia and workshops. Over 250 physicians from around the world have visited his center for training in aesthetic surgery.

Service

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has served as vice president of the International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons. Dr. Roberts is an original member of the Laser Task Force of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Honors

In addition to being named one of the "Top Cosmetic Surgeons in America" by TOWN & COUNTRY MAGAZINE, Dr. Roberts was honored as the recipient of the "Recognition Award For Excellence in Teaching of Aesthetic Surgery" by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He was elected president of the International Consortium of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

A North Carolina native, raised in Southern Florida, Dr. Roberts has called Spartanburg, S.C. “home” for more than twenty years. He and his wife Susie chose Spartanburg following his residency, to start his practice and raise their now four children. Although neither Dr. Roberts or Susie had family here, they felt that this area, with its strong ethical influence and inherent beauty, offered an environment well suited to raising a family and building strong community ties.

Dr. Roberts has enjoyed serving on boards of numerous civic and arts organizations as well as serving as an elder in his church. He was one of the founders of the St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic for the working underprivileged and one of the founders of the Western Carolina Cleft Lip and Palate Center--a multi-specialty team dedicated to evaluating and treating children with birth defects. He organizes a team of physicians, nurses and other helpers who participate in a yearly medical mission to serve the poor in the Dominican Republic, treating adults and children with birth defects, burns and other serious reconstructive problems.
