For City Business Magazine, Dr. Metzinger explained how patients who have lost significant weight, either on their own or though surgery will benefit tremendously from body contouring surgery, and that liposuction in this patient population will rarely result in a good cosmetic outcome. Such patients are better served with lifestyle-altering body contouringsurgery.

In this January 1999 Magazine, Dr. Metzinger discusses cutting edge techniques in lip augmentation. His experience and long-term result with use of Alloderm for lip enhancement has been "fantastic".

In July 2004, the Discovery Channel arrived at the office of the Aesthetic Surgical Associates in Metairie, Louisiana. They were accompanied by John Lydon, A.K.A. "Johnny Rotten", the former lead singer of the 80's rock band the Sex Pistols.

Office

For your consultation, you should try to relax and be ready to ask plenty of questions. When you arrive, we will ask you to complete a medical history and other necessary paperwork in preparation for your consultation. If time allows, we will mail you a package with the necessary paperwork for the consultation. You can choose to fill these out at home and bring these with you at the time of your consultation. A thorough visit takes time, so plan to be at the office for at least one hour. During the visit we will listen to you and discuss your desires, examine the area you wish to have corrected, and give you an opinion of what we feel can be accomplished. In some cases, it may be necessary to obtain additional studies (x-rays, mammograms, laboratory work) or consultations with other medical specialists. At the conclusion of your visit we may prescribe preoperative medications and give you some additional instructions in preparation for your operation.

For peace of mind, you should know that Dr. Metzinger is an award-winning, board certified plastic surgeon and has become internationally recognized for his work in cosmetic surgery. After surgery, you will always see the surgeon at the follow up visits. On occasion, when your particular physician is not in the office, his partner will cover the practice and see you once or twice.

Qualifications

Doctor Metzinger is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Having a profound interest in plastic surgery, Dr. Metzinger chose his training to emphasize this area.


Education

He obtained his undergraduate degree at Tulane University, and received a Masters of Science in Public Health from the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. He then completed four years of study at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans. He received multiple honors and was elected to national honor societies, Delta Omega and Alpha Omega Alpha. He then served a two year residency in general surgery at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.


Specialized Training

Soon after, he pursued training in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. He then obtained highly specialized fellowship training in Facial Aesthetic Surgery at the prestigious and world-renowned McCollough Aesthetic Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Inspired by his achievements in facial plastic surgery, Dr. Metzinger chose to pursue additional training in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and body at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He was given the John Staige Davis Resident Research award for his innovative work in plastic surgery. He then completed sub-specialty training at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Microvascular Surgery.

In 1996, he joined the faculty of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. He was dual-appointed in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and the Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery. He developed the basic science laboratory for the Plastic Surgery Division, and served as Director of Resident Research for both Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology.


Tenures

In 2000 he was named Co-Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program. During that period, several important publications and advancements in the field of breast reconstruction with perforator flaps, rhinoplasty, cosmetic eyelid rejuvenation surgery, cosmetic facial surgery, nerve regeneration and minimally invasive cosmetic surgery were developed. With this body of work, Dr. Metzinger has become a renowned and highly respected aesthetic surgeon and has been asked to lecture and teach his techniques locally, nationally, and internationally.

Dr. Metzinger is Triple Board Certified in Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Metzinger's major areas of interests are cosmetic surgery of the face, nose, breast and body.
