Testimonials

Testi "I am a 44 year old male, 5’ 9” tall, 160 lbs., and in good shape. Over the years, I developed fat pockets around my waist and in my breast area. Although I exercised every day, endless push-ups, sit-ups, and nautilus exercise did not reduce these fatty areas. Because I have a slim build, even daily aerobic classes didn’t work. When I lost weight, I lost it in my legs, arms and face; everywhere but the targeted areas, my waist and breasts.

I thought about my problem every day. My belt always seemed tight, my skin felt loose, and I didn’t enjoy looking at myself in the mirror. I knew about liposuction as a possible alternative, but, like most people in my situation, I was reluctant to pursue liposuction as a method of reducing my fatty deposits. What were the risks? Did the advantages outweigh the risks? Would I be pleased with the result? These were the questions that went through my mind.

Then, one day, I reached a breaking point. After consulting with a number of plastic surgeons, I met with Dr. Marshall. Dr. Marshall was obviously serious about his profession. He thoroughly described the procedure, risks, and goals associated with my particular circumstance. He was sympathetic but candid, and I appreciated his frankness in helping me to make this very important decision. Then and there I made my decision to undergo the procedure.

I was scheduled for liposuction within two weeks of my initial visit to Dr. Marshall’s office. Dr. Marshall performed the surgery in a hospital, where I was attended by a team of specialists. I was impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of both Dr. Marshall and the medical team that assisted him. The procedure itself took less than two hours.

Dr. Marshall had warned me that there would be discomfort and perhaps some pain. In all honesty, there was a "stinging” sensation around the affected areas, and my body was sore. For me, the most significant discomfort lasted for about three days. During this period I pretty much stayed in bed watching television or reading. Then, as Dr. Marshall predicted, I entered a different phase of the process. At the end of the third day the discomfort gave way to soreness and some numbness in concentrated areas. I was much more mobile. Within five days I was back at work, wearing the tight fitting garment that Dr. Marshall placed on me after surgery and insisted I wear for 8 to 12 weeks. You get used to wearing the garment, and it is essential for support and result.

Every day that went by brought different sensations in the involved areas and more overall body mobility. Rest gave way to walking, stationary bike riding, and ultimately exercising. Today, seven months later, I can’t tell that I had the procedure, except for the fact that those ugly fatty pockets are gone. My pants fit as they should, people have noticed a change in my appearance (but of course don’t know why), and most importantly, I like what I see in the mirror. The result is excellent.

I can honestly say that my decision to have liposuction was one of the best I have made in my adult life. I won’t say that the procedure was completely without pain, discomfort or inconvenience. But in my case, these feelings were short lived. Just a few months after the surgery the entire episode seemed like a dream, but the results are present long term. Having gone through the procedure, I would not hesitate to do it again. This is a statement I can gladly make every day when I look at myself in the minor."

Testi "I am 21 years old, 5’4” and about 130 lbs. My stats pre-op were that I had a 31” ribcage and fit nicely into a 34 B bra, measuring 8” across each breast. I am pear shaped, because I was measuring 34" across the fullest part of my bust, 26” waist, and 37” hips. While I had the same breast size since I was about 14, the rest of my body continued to mature. At the age of 14, I started wearing lightly lined bras. By my freshman year in college, I was wearing fully padded bras and still was unhappy. In my sophomore year of college I purchased silicone enhancers that I could wear anywhere, especially in the pool. The enhancers boosted my confidence because they moved with my body and no one knew I was wearing them while I was poolside. Unfortunately, during the summer of 2000, I was at my engagement party and was thrown into the pool I had not secured my enhancers to the swimsuit and they fell out. My fiancée’s sister found them floating on the top while I was frantically searching for them underwater. That night and the months thereafter I had nightmares about my enhancers falling out of my wedding dress while walking down the aisle or while dancing at the reception. I have a low back wedding gown and wearing a regular bra would be out of the question. As soon as I returned from Florida back to school in Cambridge, I began to seriously research getting the operation. I was not going to feel bad about my looks any longer and I was going to enjoy my wedding day!

I began to do tremendous research on the internet, asking questions at breast augmentation forums, watching online surgeries, and researching local plastic surgeons. I found Dr. Kenneth Marshall through my research and knew that he met the criteria of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. So immediately I made an appointment for a consultation visit. I was extremely pleased after that visit and within a few weeks, it was time to permanently enhance my body image. On February 7, 2001, I went to Mt. Auburn Hospital for surgery. Both the staff of Dr. Marshall’s office and the hospital staff were excellent and made sure that I was comfortable and happy throughout the entire process. For instance, Dr. Marshall's nurse made sure that I met with someone in anesthesia so that I could receive medication that would not allow me to feel the post-op nausea I usually felt after surgery under general anesthesia. The hospital staff made sure that I felt comfortable in the recovery room and I did not experience any great pain.

The feeling I had coming out of the recovery room was not as bad as everyone said it would be. The round, textured implants were placed under the muscle through a crease incision, but I am sure I would have felt the same as a woman who got them over the muscle. It felt like a small child or a bowling ball was sitting on my breasts. I was not comfortable lying down because the pressure was greatest in that position. When they sat me up to a reclining position, it hurt quite a bit due to the movement, but it relieved the pressure. While in the recovery room I felt the urge to lean all the way forward to take all the pressure off, but that would have stretched all my muscles and caused a little more pain, which I soon discovered when I was trying to get dressed and had to stand up. The 5 minute ride home was not bad at all.

When we got home, my fiancée had everything already set up and started me on my medications, which he picked up while I was in the operating room. The couch and about 5 pillows became my best friends for the next two days. I felt best sitting up, so we put pillows on the coffee table for me to prop up my legs and that is how I remained, day and night for the next few days. I required help getting up and sitting down. I also needed to be fed and needed help for going to the bathroom. My arms were useless for the first full week. After one week post-op, my strength returned but I did not feel comfortable doing too much. Now, three weeks post, I can lift my arms over my head and pick things up. I still avoid doing too much, just to be on the safe side. I am a fulltime nanny, so using my arms are important, but I have had no problems, except dodging kicking baby legs. As for my breasts, I did not look at them until after Dr. Marshall saw them at the follow up visit, two days after surgery. I was able to look at them in the shower and they were very swollen and hard. They also measured 12” across on each breast. Currently, they are getting much softer, especially after I massage them lightly, and have dropped quite a bit. What I mean by that is that right after surgery they started about 4 fingers below my collarbone and now they are about 6 fingers below. I also had to hold onto them every time I bent over, but that feeling is going away as well. There is still some upper pole fullness, but not as much as last week or the week before. Everyday really does get better!

Prior to the procedure I asked to be a full C/small D cup. When doing online research, I noticed many women going for implants of 425cc and up to achieve that size. When I came out of the surgery and was told that I had 330cc’s I thought I was going to be too small. Today, they measure 11” across. I am still in my surgical bra, which was uncomfortable the first week but now I feel totally unsupported without it (like in the shower). I did try on some bras two days ago and I fit wonderfully into a 36 D. The 34 D and DD’s do not feel right for some reason, but I know I have a lot more settling to do, so I don’t know where I will end up exactly. When I look at my profile, these breasts even out my very round and protruding rear end. I don’t care so much about the final size as I do about my overall proportion. Dr. Marshall did a perfect job of making me look natural, which was important because only my fiancée knows about the surgery.

I know I could wear enhancers for the rest of my life, but that would deny me a lot of freedom while doing activities that I truly enjoy, like being active on the beach back home. There is something liberating about having nothing but a layer of fabric between my clothing and me. I had not worn an unpadded bra for seven years, so I am still getting used to seeing my own breasts under clothing. At this point I feel like I’ve always had them and I think it shows in my confidence. I did not know what a difference this operation would make. I always obsessed about other women’s sizes, my size, all the clothing I could not fit into, etc. But getting implants have really made me just mentally relax. I also thought that after the operation I would start obsessing about other things wrong with me, like weight, but I am not. It really was my breast size that was causing all my years of unhappiness. If I had known that within three weeks of my surgery, I could have an awesome body and live life normally, I would have done this sooner. I wish you the best of luck with your procedure and hope that you will be as happy as I am. We all deserve this happiness for ourselves and it is well worth it!"

Testi "My so called obsession with my "pot belly” started as a little girl. My mom always said "it’s just baby fat" and it will go away when you get older. Well despite trillions of sit-ups and endless aerobics sessions that "baby fat” was still with me at the age of 37.

In the back of my mind I had always thought of liposuction but would never dare to do it. Last year I found myself in a situation where I was able to educate myself on the subject and in turn I became more comfortable with the prospect of actually considering going through with it.

The surgery itself was a breeze. Post-op I felt a little sore for a few weeks, but nothing unbearable. I went into day surgery on Thursday and was back at work on Monday. I had a root canal recently that was a lot more painful and much more of a hassle.

Well here I am 5 months post-op and I am thrilled with my new stomach. No longer do I have that little pouch under my belly button. My clothing fits better and I no longer have to wear baggy shirts to cover my belly. I bought a bikini recently and I actually wore it to the beach over the weekend— haven’t done that since I was seventeen."

Testi "I lifted my chin and showed him a 60 year old scar that started under my chin and ended 3 1/2 inches down my chest. My neck was sagging and the scar tissue was very visible. Dr. Marshal explained what he could do and informed me that during the same time period he could give me a facelift and do my eyes. I was extremely pleased with the results. Not only was the scar not prominent, but my face looked great. There were no visible scars where Dr. Marshall stitched.

On a routine trip Dr. Marshall told me about OBAGI Nu-Derm System, an at-home regimen using a complete line of cleansers, toners and creams. I started using soon after my facelift and am still using them to this day. I also used them on my neck and chest where my scar was and I can no longer see my scar. A year after my facelift I had another consultation with Dr. Marshall and asked him if he could remove the wrinkles from near my eyes. The results were so unbelievable that there is no way I will ever put makeup on my face again or go in the sun without excellent sun protection (I use Obagi sun block). Over the years I have kept in touch with the staff at Dr. Marshall's office. I order all the Obagi products I need and I ask questions about new products that have come out. They are really wonderful, knowledgeable people. I went to many doctors over the past 10 years to rid myself of the ugly scar and was told they could possible take a piece of skin from another part of my body to cover it. I'm so glad I waited and found a doctor that not only knew what he was doing but always asked what I wanted him to do, and knew so much about the maintenance of his work. Now it is so wonderful to look in the mirror and see a reflection of myself."

Testi "I was not aging well. I had puffiness and sagging under my eyes. Skin drooping over my eyelids, many deep wrinkles around my mouth and triple chins. Dr. Marshall performed a facelift for me which tightened the eyelids and all but eliminated the puffy circles under my eyes. He tightened the skin on my face and neck. The only chin I have now is the one I'm supposed to have. I look and feel years younger! My friends say retirement has taken years off my face, but my secret is cosmetic surgery with Dr. Marshall. Now I can grow old gracefully."

Testi "Having my tummy tuck two years ago, I am still 100% sure it was the right thing to do. The surgery and subsequent recovery were quite easy, the scarring minimal, and the results terrific and lasting..."

Testi "Dear Dr. Marshall,

This is a long, overdue letter of thanks for your help and expert care. First, you gave me post-surgical care and did expert corrective surgery to repair the scar from an accident in New Jersey. Last fall, following cosmetic surgery, bees or wasps attacked the healing wound. This lead to complications beyond anything I had imagined. You were exceptionally kind to help me with emergency, middle-of-the-night surgery.

I am sure it was no easy feat to line up an operating room and anesthesiologist. I was scared with so much bleeding but you reassured me and my husband and did everything necessary to fix the harm that had been done. You must've made rounds that morning without getting any sleep.

At this Thanksgiving time I want to be sure to give thanks to you. You are a wonderful doctor and I am one extremely fortunate patient.

With sincere apprecation,"
M.R.

Testi "I'm a 52 year old woman who has just had a breast reduction. The reduction was not always something I had thought about until 2 years ago, when my PCP (Primary Care Physician) recommended I look into it. I had been having backaches and a lot of chaffing underneath my breasts. Perhaps the worst thing I had noticed was myself getting more and more round-shouldered.

I had the surgery done 2 months ago. It was quick and painless. The first thing I noticed was only 48 hours after surgery. I was in a beach chair in my yard, and I noticed my shoulders pulled back as they always used to be. My backaches have disappeared. An added bonus is the way my breasts now look in clothing. I am still healing and notice small things all the time. It was definitely the best thing I could have done for myself."

Testi "Dear Dr. Marshall,
Thank you so much for making my body image dreams into a reality. I now can walk confidently down the street and enjoy the world around me instead of being self conscious. I truly cannot wait until I get to Miami and can go swimming without enhancers! You have made it possible to improve many aspects of my lifestyle and without anyone realizing that there has been any physical change. The transition from pre breast augmentation to post was incredibly smooth and I have you to thank."
