The procedures described on our Website are all elective procedures; that is, they are not emergencies. Why, then, would anyone go through this? After all, cosmetic surgery may be cosmetic, but it is still surgery and, as such, is associated with the risk of complications.

Despite that, hundreds of thousands of cosmetic surgery procedures are performed each year in the United Sates alone, and many times that around the world. There are many possible explanations for this, but the bottom line is that these procedures work. They can do things that nothing else can, i.e., effect a permanent change in specific parts of one's body. Not only that, but the patient gets to pick which part or parts are altered.

Dr. Alan M. Office

The office, which is located at 122 East 64th Street (between Park and Lexington Avenues) in New York City, contains a fully equipped surgical facility that is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF). Most procedures are performed here. Some procedures (such as breast reductions) are routinely performed in a hospital. Any procedure, however, can be performed in a hospital, according to the patient's and/or the surgeon's preferences. Dr. Engler has admitting and operating privileges at Beth Israel Medical Center and at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Engler's operating privileges at these hospitals include all of the surgical procedures that are performed in the office.

Testi "I always had issues with my body when I was growing up. Constantly dieting caused my weight to fluctuate over the years and as a result my breasts began to sag. Aside from dropping, they were uneven and unattractive. I always had to wear a bra and bathing suit tops had to fit like an under wire bra for me to wear them. When I reached my thirties, I finally became happy with my weight by eating healthy and exercising. Unfortunately, neither of those things would change the look and feel of my breasts. When I turned 33, I decided to consider breast augmentation. I was unsure whether or not I would need implants or a lift to get my desired results. I really put myself in the hands of Dr. Engler and let him guide me on the size and type of implants. I wanted to look natural and they definitely do. The only thing unnatural about them is that they are just about perfect! My experience with Dr. Engler from the moment I walked into his office was a wonderful experience. Testi "Dr. Engler was one of three surgeons I had consultations with regarding Breast Reduction surgery to alleviate the extreme back pain caused by a combination of my extra large breasts and back injuries in connection with a car accident. Although I felt completely comfortable and immediately trusted Dr. Engler, I went against my better judgment and chose another doctor for financial reasons. Well, I paid a much higher price, as the surgery was a disaster, which resulted in infection, misplaced nipples, and misshaped breasts with ripples. All the while, my doctor only called once to check on my progress and seemed disinterested when I went in for checkups or called asking questions and trying to explain issues I was having (excessive bleeding, staples still in, etc.).

After seven months and the realization that unless I did something my breasts would be a mess for life, I went back to Dr. Engler for another consultation. From the moment I returned to his offices, I knew I was going to be given the kind of care we all hope to receive from our doctors. The staff was friendly and helpful; Dr. Engler was kind, patient, informative, honest – everything you want in a doctor, especially one assisting you with such a sensitive and serious - and embarrassing - issue. He explained that it might not be easy to right the wrongs I had been victim to with my previous doctor; however, he would do his best. Now, post surgery, I am a new woman! I can look at myself in the mirror without crying over what my breasts looked like.

Dr. Engler was able to correct what had been done, and I can't believe how great I look. He took the time to care for me, his patient; answering my questions, explaining in detail how the surgery went, calling me at home several time post surgery to make sure I was okay and wasn’t having any difficulty. His staff was always helpful, friendly and accommodating. I can’t say enough about Dr. Engler, he is the kind of Doctor you always hope for, and I thank him for all he has done to help/care for me as well as restore some of my faith that there are still Doctors out there who care about and for their patients."

Testi "I consulted with Dr. Engler to see if he would be able to correct the problems with my previous breast surgery - and the answer is YES. Now I look fabulous, and this is the way I hoped I would look from the start. Within a year of my original surgery I had developed rippling on my right breast, an indentation on my left breast, and had too large a space between my breasts. I was very aware of these issues as they were noticeable both in and out of clothes. Apparently, my surgeon had implanted the wrong implants for my body.

A friend told me about Dr. Engler. At first I was hesitant to contact him because I live a little outside New York but then I did, and I have to say that my decision to meet with Dr Engler was definitely the right choice. Dr. Engler spent lots of time with me discussing my options. I met with him THREE times to go over all the choices, including the size of the implant, silicone versus saline, the profile of the implant, the incision, etc. I have three pages full of the implant dimensions and the measurements we made. He also has a great office staff. They are very pleasant and easy to speak with. I scheduled my surgery right after meeting him for the first time. The surgery itself went very well. I had very little pain, and the entire staff did a great job of keeping me comfortable and calm.

Dr Engler's post-op communication with me was impeccable. He called me every day and walked me through the entire recovery period. How do I look? Magnificent, if I may say so! I would recommend Dr Engler to any woman who is thinking of having breast augmentation, whether for the first time or to correct what was previously done. Testi "Dr. Engler is as great a plastic surgeon as he is a human being. I was very resourceful when it came to finding the right surgeon to perform my breast augmentation, and at one point I even made four consultation appointments for one day! Many of the surgeons were eager to advertise themselves by constantly calling me back or trying to give me a bargain. But Dr. Engler was very professional and I knew he was the right choice, because in addition to having extensive experience and an outstanding resume, he was warm, informative and very attentive to my questions/concerns.

When I woke up post-surgery, the anesthesia kept me dazed and I couldn't walk straight towards my ride, which was waiting for me outdoors. Dr. Engler placed me in a wheelchair and wheeled me outside and helped me get in the car. My friend, who was there to support me, was surprised to see just how far Dr. Engler would go out of his way to make sure that his patients are well taken care of, even beyond his office. In fact, she told me she was shocked to witness the doctor himself assist me outside of the operating room when he could have sent any of his staff to help me out. It's just something you don't see everyday, and it speaks volumes about Dr. Engler's character. It didn't end there. Dr. Engler also called nearly daily via his cell phone to make sure that I was healing properly. I have never been under the care of a doctor who extends himself this far enough to make his patient completely at ease before, during and after surgery. I also have to mention how warm and comforting the staff is; they are kind and personable so you always feel welcomed.

My results are stellar! Everyone who has seen my breasts agrees that they are PERFECT! I'm already awaiting the warmer weather so that I can show them off! If you truly want to be HAPPY (and who doesn't?) with every aspect of your procedure, Dr. Engler is the one you can trust, to give you the body you want and to be there for you every step of the way. Dr. Engler, you ROCK!"

Testi "Every year when summer came around, I would be so excited for school to be over, late nights out, and just time to hang out with friends. Still there was one thing that always bothered me… being at the pool and the beach in a bikini. Since I was little I always had a small framed body: thin legs, skinny arms, flat stomach, and worst of all, a flat chest. Nothing bothered me more then being around a group of friends who I thought looked awesome in a bathing suit and me feeling like I had the body of a fourth grader. I began feeling self-conscious and had a serious complex with how I looked.

I stuffed my bra every day but it got so tiring. I had a talk with my parents and told them how I felt. At first they thought I was crazy but after seeing how serious I was, they agreed to take me to see a plastic surgeon. I was recommended to Dr. Engler and I went to meet with him. As soon as I walked into the office, all of my nervousness disappeared because of the warm welcoming I got. The staff made me feel comfortable and reassured me that there was nothing wrong with improving myself by getting a boob job. I thought I would feel awkward being in a room topless, but Dr. Engler makes the whole experience exciting and easy. My Mom was with me, and after she spoke with Dr. Engler, all of her doubts about me getting the surgery were thrown away.

On the day of my surgery I was both thrilled and anxious. However, once I slipped into my gown and met with the anesthesiologist, I became at ease. I met once again with Dr. Engler and his assistant who took me to the surgical room and as they talked to me, I became even more relaxed. At that point I was so ready to go! When it was over, I was taken into another room where I got excellent care until I was conscious enough to go home. The first two days in my opinion were the roughest, but definitely manageable. The rest of the week I felt pressure, but overall, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

When I was all set and done, I put on a bikini, looked at myself in the mirror and couldn’t be happier! Every time I see myself in a bra or a low cut shirt, I just want to hug and kiss my doctor and his assistants who made it all happen!! If you are considering breast enlargement, I really encourage you to go for it. If you decide to get some kind of plastic surgery done, make sure you are 100% comfortable with your doctor. As for me, I couldn’t have asked for a better one!"

Testi "First, let me start by saying that I have never felt better about myself! I am a 42 year old business professional who had thought about breast implants for many years. My weight fluctuation over the years and my breasts were a source of embarrassment for me. Alan M. Engler, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board-certified plastic surgeon (The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc.). He is a graduate of Yale University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. A Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, he is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Engler is a Member of the Advisory Board of Healthcare.com and is an Expert for Allexperts.com

Dr. Engler was named One of “The World’s Most Famous Aesthetic Surgeons,” (Aesthetic Surgery, Taschen, Ed. Angelika Taschen), and he has been listed as one of New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors in New York” and in Castle, Connolly Medical Ltd’s “The Best New York Metro Area Doctors.” He is the author of four books, BodySculpture - Plastic Surgery of the Body for Men and Women (Second Edition - 2000), EyeScapes - Plastic Surgery of the Eyelids (2006), Restylane (2003), and The Slim Book of Liposuction (1993). He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows, including four times on the Ricki Lake Show.

Dr. Engler has received two U.S. Patents for surgical instruments he's designed. The first, D458,680, called the Engler Lighted Retractor, is manufactured and distributed by ASSI (New York). This instrument is used for procedures on several different areas of the body, including the face (facelifts, liposuction of the chin/neck) and breasts (breast enlargements, replacement of implants). The second, D568,471 is a retractor that facilitates the insertion of breast implants by venting the space into which the implant is placed.
