Breast Reduction or Lift Using the Single Lollipop Scar Technique

By: Laura A. Sudarsky, M.D.

Women with large or droopy breasts may experience a variety of medical problems including back or neck pain, and rashes under the breast. The weight of large heavy breasts can cause the bra straps to dig into the shoulders leaving groove markings. Large breasts can get in the way of physical activities, such as running and sports, which can make weight control very difficult if not impossible.

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure undertaken to make breasts smaller. Breast lift or mastopexy, is to uplift the breasts. There are many different techniques to accomplish the same goal. The more traditional technique uses an inverted T approach, leaving the breasts with an anchor scar along the horizontal crease. When possible I utilize the vertical technique that leaves the breast with a single vertical/lollipop incision. In my opinion this leaves the breast with a rounder more naturally appearing breast with less scarring.

Breast reductions and mastopexies may be performed as an outpatient procedure in my private accredited surgical suite, or in the hospital. Breast reduction may be covered by insurance. If you would like to learn more about these procedures, please contact the office for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Sudarsky @ 845-353-4100.
