Although their office opened last May, Drs. Gregory Mackay and Donald Nunn’s cosmetic and plastic surgery center is already evolving into a successful practice. And why wouldn’t it? Both men are insanely qualified, with more than 10 and 21 years of experience, respectively, and five medical boards between the two of them. Nunn claims the distinction of being in plastic surgery, otolaryngology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery, while Mackay is one of three people in Georgia with a double board in plastic surgery and general surgery, and a fellowship in craniofacial surgery.
Thus, it’s only fitting that such distinctive individuals would also have a distinctive location for their practice. Located on the St. Joseph’s Hospital campus, their state-of-the-art medical center boasts an overnight surgical suite and underground tunnel system that gives patients access to the hospital. And, with all anesthesia provided by hospital-based anesthesiologists, “you have the privacy of not being in a hospital, but have all of the same amenities and safety that you would get in a major medical center,” Mackay says.
The doctors, known for performing team operations on difficult cosmetic cases, credit their success to a sense of honesty when working with patients. “Not everyone needs plastic surgery,” Nunn says.
Besides sharing patients, Mackay and Nunn hold in common a warm sense of humor. Mackay admits that “being partners is kind of like marriage of sorts. You have to be able to get along, and have similar values and goals.” Both doctors believe in the all-important philosophy that the patient comes first, and they are achieving their goal of having a reputable word-of-mouth practice in Atlanta.
