Alfred Sofer, M.D.

Dr. Alfred Sofer underwent nine years of surgical training before starting his solo practice in Fairfield, CT. He graduated Columbia University in New York and then attended Albany Medical College for his medical degree. He completed his General Surgery training at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY and then completed his Plastic Surgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

His particular training interests were in microsurgery and surgery of the hand due to their delicate nature and the skill required to attend to small details. He therefore attended Kleinert Institute for hand and microvascular surgery in Louisville, KY where the only successful hand transplant is performed in the United States.

Dr. Sofer is a member of the American Medical Association, Connecticut Medical Society, Fairfield Medical Society, American Board of Surgery, and a candidate member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Sofer strives for excellence in Plastic Surgery. He is actively involved in the education of medical students and surgical residents at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Dr. Sofer regularly attends continuing medical education courses in Plastic Surgery and adheres to the strict codes of ethics provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Sofer has staff privileges at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport Hospital and Healthsouth Surgery Center. Dr. Sofer demonstrated his skillfulness in being creative and enjoying science from an early age. He found his passion in Plastic Surgery where he can use his skills in both areas of art and being on the cutting edge of technology and the science of Plastic Surgery. To him, Plastic Surgery is extremely rewarding because over the past decade of being a Plastic Surgeon, he has seen his patients’ self confidence improve through the choice of undergoing surgical and non-surgical rejuvenating procedures. Dr. Sofer believes strongly that only through carefully listening to each patient, he can tailor an individual treatment plan for them.
