Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery

Born in Virginia Beach, Dr. Sundin is a native of Virginia. He is a graduate of the Norfolk Academy and went on from there to attend Duke University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke in 1993. He received a degree in both Biology and Art history. He continued his career, becoming a triple graduate of Duke University, having completed medical school at Duke University Medical Center in 1997 and his residency in Plastic Surgery at Duke in 2003.

Dr. Sundin is trained in all forms of plastic surgery and has completed two advanced fellowships. He is a graduate of the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery where he completed a dedicated hand surgery fellowship. He has also completed an advanced cosmetic surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham,under the guidance of one of the fathers of modern plastic and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Luis Vasconez. While at UAB, Dr. Sundin was given a faculty appointment as an Instructor. He is familiar with all of the latest techniques in cosmetic surgery. Dr. Sundin is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Sundin and his wife, Hayden, moved to Richmond in 2004. They live in Richmond’s Historic Fan District and enjoy renovating their old home. They are active in their church, St James’ Episcopal Church.

Dr. Burton M. Sundin treats his patients with compassion and understanding and is more than happy to give each patient time and consideration, especially in dealing with their particular problems, issues and concerns.

People have different needs and Dr. Sundin maintains a confidence and assuredness to be the most accommodating and comfortable with everyone. Unhurried and willing to tackle any and all types of questions, consultation with Dr. Sundin is a rewarding and learning experience.
