Background
A native of Kansas City, Dr. Geraghty attended Bishop Miege High School in Kansas and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School, which included a general surgery residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
He began private practice in 1978, after completing his plastic surgery residency training through the University of Missouri-Kansas City at Truman Medical Center and Children's Mercy Hospital. He was a clinical assistant professor at UMKC Medical School for 8 years. In 2006, Dr Geraghty was asked to serve on the KU Medical Alumni Board of Directors as a Distinguished Medical Teaching Fund Trustee. Dr. Geraghty has been in private practice for 27 years and has offices on the Plaza and in North Kansas City.
A qualified plastic surgeon is certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which is one of 16 certifying boards regulated by the American Board of Medical Specialties. As professional credentials are very important when selecting a plastic surgeon, Dr. Geraghty has been board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons since April 1979 and has focused his main interest in aesthetic plastic surgery.
New Technologies
Dr. Geraghty has consistently been in the forefront of new technologies and products in plastic surgery. In fact, in 1985 he became one of the first plastic surgeons in the United States to be trained in Liposuction. He has actively supported his breast implant patients by participating in the FDA's study regarding the safety of silicone implants. He uses endoscopic techniques for browlifts and subperiosteal cheeklifts, lasers in skin resurfacing and has endeavored to find the best material for the long-term lip enhancement, and correction of glabellar and smile lines.
Personal
He is married to Judy Geraghty, has a daughter, Kellie, a son, Kevin, and plays as much tennis as he can. Dr. Geraghty is also a scuba diver, swimmer and waterskiier. An avid Kansas Jayhawks fan, he will of course, see fans from other universities.
Philantropy
Dr. Geraghty finds much satisfaction in his practice and enjoys his aesthetic patients. He also experiences a deep fulfillment in his volunteer work in the third world. He established Medical Aid for Children of Latin America (MACLA), a 501C3 not-for-profit corporation, to sponsor work in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia as well as other countries in need of reconstructive plastic surgery. On May 3, 2005, Dr. Geraghty received the 2004 In Chul Song Award for Philanthropic Service. Dr. Geraghty also received the 2004 Humanitarian Award which was presented by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
