A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Shell graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical school in 1974. He completed his general surgery training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and completed his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. In 1981 he received the "outstanding Resident Award" from the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
Dr. Shell, a Board Certified plastic surgeon, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American and Tennessee Medical Associations and the American and Southeastern Societies of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is also active in pediatric plastic surgery.
