Qualifications for Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery Specialists

Ken Dembny, M.D.

I was born in Fort Atkinson and spent most of my childhood and teenage years in Delavan, Wisconsin. From a young age I enjoyed drawing and crafting, and then later building and painting model airplanes. I swam competitively through high school, and also liked bicycling. During my junior year of high school, I lived a wonderful and educational year in Santos, Brasil as an American Field Service (AFS) foreign exchange student. I decided to attend medical school when it seemed like I needed something more than biochemistry. Although I always enjoyed baking as a kid, my real interest in cooking didn't develop until I was in medical school. I met my wife while I was a surgical resident at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Holly and I were married in 1998 in her home town, Guttenberg, Iowa. One month later we moved to Columbus, Ohio for my plastic surgery residency. We enjoyed Columbus, but moved back to Wisconsin because of this wonderful job opportunity, and to be closer to our families.

In October 1999, Holly gave birth to our first daughter. Klaire is an independent girl with a friendly personality. She loves swimming, playing with friends, crafting, wearing flip-flops, and visiting grandma and grandpa's farm in Iowa. In August 2002, we were blessed with our son, Kenneth D. Dembny III. Dell is "all boy" and loves his bat and ball, big diggers and trucks, looking for worms and bugs, and riding his bicycle. In May 2004 our family celebrated the addition of our second daughter, Kamryn. She is a gentle, loving, and happy girl who loves her mother, any candy she can find, princesses and Barbie dolls, and enjoys learning from her brother and sister. I am lucky to share my life with my loving wife and children.

We plan to be active in the Milwaukee community for many years, but enjoy our vacation trips to Florida.

Larry Sterkin, M.D.

My wife and I have been happily married for 21 years. She is a pediatric critical care nurse at The Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. We met in Los Angeles when I was a medical student at USC and she was a nursing student at LA County School of Nursing. One summer afternoon in my fourth year, after I finished work on advanced anatomy study, I went over to the County Hospital intern and resident's swimming pool. The pool was gated, but open to nursing students. Cathy was with her friends at the pool, felt sorry for me standing behind the gate, and let me in. We started talking and found many shared interests: medicine, music (she studied piano, I studied violin), and we both attended the same high school and college (although we never met before this time). I got her phone number and asked her out. One year later we married in Chicago while I was a resident at Cook County Hospital.

Dr. Sterkin has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Milwaukee Magazine in 1996, 2000 and in 2004. In 1996 Dr. Sterkin was named the #1 Doctor in Plastic Surgery by the Milwaukee nurses surveyed.
