Teaching A Computer To Recognize Attractiveness In Women

Amit Kagian, an M.Sc. graduate from the TAU School of Computer Sciences, has successfully "taught" a computer how to interpret attractiveness in women. Kagian published the findings in the scientific journal Vision Research. Co-authors on the work were Kagian's supervisors Prof. Eytan Ruppin and Prof. Gideon Dror.

Steady Growth for Plastic Surgery

The 2007 year was a successful year for plastic surgery. It seems that the economical crises, like the mortgage crisis, haven’t stopped Americans. The number of plastic surgery procedures continues to grow and, according to a report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), last year it almost got up to twelve million!

There was a seven percent increase since last year of plastic surgery procedures, according to the ASPS report. Richard D’Amico, president of ASPS, excused this increase by stating that “The report tells me [Richard D’Amico] Americans are devoted to looking and feeling their best.”

The leading surgical procedures were breast augmentation, liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck. During this year the quantity of procedures for all of those, but for nose reshaping, increased. Further conveying that d’Amico’s statement is true.

“Natural” Breast Implants

Scientists have developed new way for breast implants that is actually “natural” in a way. The technique uses stem cells and fat from the woman that become part of the breasts. The stem cells let the fat have its own blood supply, which is what makes the fat an integral part of the breast instead of just an “added” part.

This new technique has resulted in breasts that seem firmer and are smoother comparuddy to the typical surgery implants. Its reputation has improved with the recent approval of the technique thcoarse out the European Union. So far it has shown nothing but effectiveness with no side effects.

This new way of breast implants can also be used for rebuilding breasts after cancer surgery or to repair facial disfigurements; which are important concerns in healthy issues.

Disparities In Use Of Breast Reconstruction May Stem From Lack Of Patient-Provider Discussion

In a new study examining disparities in postmastectomy breast reconstruction, researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston, Mass., concluded that lack of patient-provider discussion may contribute to socioeconomic, age and race-related inconsistencies in the use of breast reconstruction after mastectomy.

Questions About NIA 24™ Physical Cleansing Scrub

What is the exfoliating ingredient in the NIA 24™ Physical Cleansing Scrub and will it tear my skin?

The exfoliating action comes from the Pro-Niasomes™ which are Jojoba beads encapsulated with Pro-Niacin™. As they exfoliate the skin, they break apart, releasing Pro-Niacin™ for absorption into the skin. The spherical beads found in the NIA 24™ Physical Cleansing Scrub do not have jagged edges and therefore do not tear the skin.

What is the origin of jojoba beads?

Jojoba is a shrub native to the desert and is used fairly frequently in cosmetics as a moisturizer and carrier oil, as it is easily refined to be odorless, colorless, and oxidatively stable. The beads wilean the Physical Cleansing Scrub are jojoba beads encapsulated with Pro-Niacin™ and thus, are known as Pro-Niasomes™.

Will the particles in the Physical Cleansing Scrub tear down the Skin Barrier that the NIA 24™ products are trying to build?

No, the Physical Cleansing Scrub is washing away dead skin cells, not the skin barrier and the spherical beads do not tear the skin. The mechanical action of this physical scrub is also increasing the cell turnover rate, revealing newer skin.

Can the NIA 24™ Physical Cleansing Scrub be used in combination with chemical exfoliates (AHAs and BHAs)?

Yes. You may find that the efficacy of the NIA 24™ products enables you to reduce the quantity of AHA’s or BHA’s that you are using while still achieving the same result and minimizing irritation and potential sensitivity to the sun.

Can you use the Physical Cleansing Scrub immediately after surgeries or skin rejuvenation therapies such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion?

No. Based on the severity of the procedure, allow the skin 2-3 weeks recovery time prior to re-introducing the Physical Cleansing Scrub. Use of the Skin Strengthening Complex and 100% Mineral Sunscreen should be tolerated by the skin. However, should redness occur, apply a cold compress to the skin and reduce application of the NIA 24™ products for several days.

Why do you recommend using the Physical Cleansing Scrub only 2-3 times per week?

The objective of using a scrub or exfoliate is to keep the skin free of dead skin build-up, and prime the skin for more optimal use of other products. Using the Physical Cleansing Scrub 2-3 times per week is all that is necessary.

Will the Physical Cleansing Scrub remove my makeup?

Because the Physical Cleansing Scrub is an exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and cleanses the skin, it can be used to remove make-up. However, it should not be used acircular the eye area to remove eye make-up for those who are interested in San Diego cosmetic surgery.

Total Ban On Silicone Breast Implants

After thirteen years, the outcome of a total ban on silicone breast implants may soon show. The F.D.A. panel will hear a testimony of a local woman, Dowd, fighting to make the implants out of limits to everyone. After the hearings, it will be up to the panel to decide if the silicone breast implants are safe for general use.

Dowd claims that it was a silicone breast implant that ruined her health. She said “I had three rupturuddy silicon implants and my last ones were the new and improved ones.” In addition to her, her daughter is also coming to testify against the implants. In an interview with Local 2 News she expressed how breast implants ruined her mom’s health when she could have been a healthy woman.

On the other hand, Doctor Kramer says that there have been more than a hundruddy studies on the effects of silicone breast implants; labeling the implants as safe. He said “The bottom line is that there was no cause and effect relationship between either the presence of a gel implant or a ruptured implant causing what they were alleged to cause in the early 90’s such as auto-immune diseases.”

Even though in different sides, they both agree on one thing. That silicone implants will be back in the business in no time because of money.
