Jan's Story

Up until I had breast cancer, I never even considered having breast implants. However, in celebration of my five-year anniversary from cancer, I made the decision to have implants.

The general surgeon was able to remove the cancer with a lumpectomy, although it left that breast much smaller than the other. Every time I looked at myself in the mirror, I was reminded of that extremely difficult time in my life.

More importantly, I did not feel sexually attractive because of that. I had already visited many plastic surgeons, and even had some tell me that they would not put an implant in a radiated breast. I thought, okay, I will wait, research, and try again with another plastic surgeon.

Breast Implants 411 gave me so much additional information about implants and was a real motivation to persevere. Finally this past December, I found a PS that I "thought" was the surgeon I wanted. He came highly recommended by my oncologist. I had major difficulties from the start. There were red flags and I did NOT pay attention to them. He was only concerned with the exact same size I was, and really did not care what I wanted. He did not communicate well at all. As it turned out, I immediately developed capsular contraction in the non-cancer breast. I went to a PS recommended by BreastImplants411 for a second opinion.

His said that the other plastic surgeon did not place the implant in the pocket correctly and yes, I had a little CC. I just had the re-do last week, I feel wonderful, and am optimistic that all will be great. The new plastic surgeon increased my size from 300cc's to 500cc's. A majority of his practice is implants. I feel it is sooo important to find plastic surgeons that predominately do implants, and truly care about their patients.
